2024 Guest Speaker: Dr. Jay Herndon & wife Teri

Dr. Jay is serves our Assemblies of God Nevada California District office as Secretary - Treasurer.

He was born in Minnesota and migrated to California (Santa Cruz) when he was a child. As a boy he attended a small Foursquare church and when he became older he assisted his pastor: running the sound, mowing the lawn, and working around the place. It was then that he began to sense that God was calling him into ministry. After High School he enrolled in Bethany Bible College. After graduating (1981) he became credentialed with this District and began a decade of Youth Ministry — first in Redwood City, later in Covina, and then in Las Vegas. He  also did a season of missions work in the South Pacific with YWAM.

He was a co-pastor in San Rafael and was teaching adjunct at Bethany College while aslo working part-time at UPS as a supervisior. After graduating with a Master of Divinity he became a Senior Pastor, first in Felton, and later in Burlingame. He also continued as an adjunct at Bethany and later as a Trustee. He also enrolled in a Doctor of Ministry program at GGBTS which he finished in 2001. He also served on their Doctor of Ministry Committee.

Dr. Jay served the District in many various capacities over the years: Bethany Trustee, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee, Presbyter, Executive Presbyter, and Chairman of the Blue Ribbon Committee, as well as some other ad-hoc duties. In 2005, the District elected him to be Secretary-Treasurer.

It was early in his ministry, in Redwood City, that he met and married Teri — Teri was also felt called to ministry — he first recruited her to assist him in the youth ministry and later realized that he needed her for something more! She has been his companion in life and ministry ever since. Together they raised two children: Joshua and Janae, and are blessed with seven grandchildren.
